Brad Pitt for Chanel No.5

When I first got whiff that
Brad Pitt
was named the new spokesperson for
 Chanel No. 5...
I thought the marketing idea had the
sweet smell of success.

Chanel No. 5 has been around since the 1920's,
so choosing hunky Brad Pitt as their first male spokesman
would give the iconic fragrance
a fresh new marketing approach.

I don't, however, need convincing to buy the classic perfume.
I currently wear "the scent of woman."
 Bring on the toilet water.

But maybe an ad
with Brad..
would get other women running like mad...
to get their Brad
on.

The essence of the advertisement seemed brilliant...
until I saw the commercial.

Anywhooo.....

The commercial is artsy, set in black and white
with Brad giving a monologue.

Sporting long hair and a goatee,
Brad looks around the room and then into the camera saying...

"It's not a journey.
Every journey ends, but we go on,
"The world turns and we turn with it."
"Plans disappear, dreams take over.
But wherever I go, there you are.
My luck, my fate, my fortune."
Chanel No. 5
Inevitable.

check it out, here. (30 seconds)

I JUST DON'T GET IT...
no matter how many times I watch it.
(Dang, I hate it when I don't get it.)

But what I do get...
is a big laugh.
attack.

In an attempt to make the commercial sexy...
Brad comes across as a
scruffy, long-haired man...
talking in riddles.

I think his last line in the Chanel ad...
is sooooo apropo...
"my luck, my fate, my fortune."

Brad's luck
is that his fate
brings him a 7 million dollar fortune
Inevitable.

P.S.
The essence of this blog was not to
extract a bouquet of insults.

Although there may be a faint scent
of a sarcastic aroma...
and a low note of ridicule...
this my no means
was a slam on the man.

If anyone can pull off the "scruffy riddler" type...
it is Brad Pitt.

Laptop OUT of commision

My laptop is OUT...

Out of commission.

I am posting this blog today with the help of my iPad and
old clunker desktop.
(A sufficient/proficient/iron deficient blogger should always have a back-up plan.)
I guess they work in a pinch.
Pinch me now.

I know I'm only a blogger
 and not a PC doctor...
but I'm guessing my Dell laptop was invaded by a virus.

I'm  not exactly sure how and when the virus entered  my Dell.

It was working one moment ...
firing on all processors...

and  then the next moment,
it was flashing "crash" on a blue screen.

And to think this occurred on my birthday.
no wonder I feel old.
Happy Birthday to Me.

I have a sneaking suspicion
a nasty bug,
created by an even nastier bug maker...
wormed its way into my Dell

...and the darn thing isn't even an Apple.

The prognosis wasn't good for dear Dell,
so  I decided not to revive it.

Ten months ago I had given it a
third lease on life...
but,
I've coughed-up enough $$$ taking care of my ailing PC.
Not enough Band Aid fixes can keep it going.

So I have given my Dell
"Do Not resuscitate"
orders.

Anywhooooo........

I wish I could catch the people spreading viruses to healthy PC's.

It would be poetic justice
if the perpetrators spreading these nasty germs
came down with a virus of their own.

I would even feel vindicated...
if  they came down with a bad case of bed bugs.

These low-down perps should at least have trouble sleeping at night.

I have a couple of words for the perps
who generate viruses that create
havoc...mayhem...and
misery...
byte it.

Now I'm off to buy a new laptop.
hmmmm.....On second thought...

Kat, Are You My Mother?

The children's book,
“Are You My Mother,”
by P.D. Eastman
was one of my all-time favorite books as a kid...
and definitely a favorite
to read to my kids.
Are You My Mother? An I Can Read It All By Myself Beginner Book -
        By: P.D. Eastman

Remember the story?
A Momma bird leaves her nest to look for food.
During her absence, her egg hatches and her baby bird falls to the ground.
In his search for his Mother, baby bird encounters a
kitten, dog, airplane, hen, cow, steamboat, steam shovel (snort) asking each,
“Are you my mother?”

This week that book came to life for me...
when I noticed through our back slider door...
3 black kittens on our patio.
They looked confused and bewildered.
With wide eyes in my direction, they asked,
“Are you my mother?”

The thought crossed my mind to adopt them and become their mother.
After all, I am a Kat with an empty nest.
It would be great to hear the pitter patter of furry feet again.
But when I opened the slider door,
the kittens scurried away.

Later that afternoon when I checked again...
there they were...

huddled together in one big black fur ball
on the bottom stair basking in the warm fall sun.

Two of the kittens picked their heads up and looked at me...
again asking,
"Are you my mother?"

I had questions.
Where was their mother?
Did she abandon them?
Are they hungry?
Where was their dad?
Was he another deadbeat TomCat who knocked up Momma Cat
and was back slinking around the Kitty Cub; getting lap dances?

I felt sorry for the motherless kittens...
but I also knew, if I fed them I would be their mother.
What was this Kat to do?

 Enter...
PaulA who poured two bowls of milk for the kittens and put them outside.
Will they come?
You bet they come.
First one kitten,
then another...
looking back at PaulA asking,

 "Are you my mother?"

Anywhooooo....

The book by P.D. Eastman has  a happy ending.
Momma bird flies back to her nest and is reunited with her baby bird
after the 'snort' puts him back in the nest.

And so,
the ending of my story goes...

The next morning I checked for the kittens and
 lo and behold,

there was
Momma Cat
sitting on the patio with her kittens.
PLUS, a fourth kitten,
that hadn’t been there the day before.
(Obviously, Momma Cat had been busy the day before,
taking Kitty #4 to soccer practice.)

I smiled to see Momma Cat with her baby kittens.

As I watched the Momma/kitty reunion,
Momma Cat looked back at me saying,

“Thanks Kat,
I got it from here."

dang,
I love happy endings.

Thank you, Chris Columbus

If you have today off from work or school...

you have
Christopher Columbus
to thank.

And you’re probably doing a
hap, hap, happy dance
for the long weekend.

I remember being taught in elementary school
that Christopher Columbus discovered America in 1492.

Who could forget the rhyme that was drilled into our heads?

“In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue.”

But in reality,
when Columbus and the
Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria
landed in the New World...
it was not America they discovered.
It was the Bahamas.

Inhabitants were already living on the island...
welcoming Christopher Columbus,
like a Walmart greeter:

"Hey, mon.
How may I help you?"

Let’s also not overlook the fact
that the Vikings
had already explored the North American coast
500 years
before Columbus.

 (so, what’s in your wallet?)

Anywhoooo......

I don’t want to take any thunder from
Christopher Columbus’s accomplishments.

To sail across the Atlantic in a wooden boat,
without a deck pool or boat drinks,
is a big darn deal.

PLUS, it is extremely impressive that Columbus
managed to get a 3-day weekend put on our calendar.

ALAS...

We can't thank you enough,
Christopher Columbus
for discovering the Bahamas.

"No problem, mon."

An Anniversary So Right

Today marks my 31st Wedaversary

Kat

+

PaulA =

 31 years of wedded bliss.
 (yes, bliss bliss bliss)

31 years is a long time,
but when it's with the right person...
it feels so right.

I liked the comment Chelsea left a couple of weeks ago
on my five year blogaversary entry...
(yes, 5 years...blog, blog, blog)

"a lot is different, but some things never change."

Her comment about the last 5 years...
has me thinking about the past 31 years.

There is a lot that is different.

PaulA and I are older, wiser, and...
have better taste.

And we were blessed to have 3 kids,
who are older, wiser, and...

tasting freedom.

But as Chelsea also wrote
" some things never change."

And when I think about it....that girl is so right.

(woo hoo, bigC)

PaulA
 is my bff
has incredible energy and amazing stamina...(take your mind out of the gutter)
puts a card in the envelope upside down, wrong way, lefty style
writes a sentimental card that brings tears
makes me laugh
my center
my(house) rock
my love for 31  years...and counting

Anywhooo......

Being the creatures of tradition that we are...

I'll open the card PaulA put 'wrong way' in the envelope.
I'll get teary when I read his beautifully written sentiments.
My tears will turn to laughter.
I'll wear my wedding gown
that I keep stored in a blue Rubbermaid container in the basement.
And we'll dance to our song "Something So Right" (sing it, Barbra Streisand)

like we did that day.

After 31 years...we're still the same corny couple.
Some things never change...
especially when they are
something so right.

Bagel Trend

How do you like your bagel?

Under a bit of butter?
Under a schmear of cream cheese?
Under a layer of lox?

How about a bagel...
under your forehead?

Say what???

In Japan...not only can you get Botox around the eyes...
you can get a bagel in the middle of your forehead.

Japan's current body modification trend
is a saline injection into the forehead.

After the 400cc saline swelling is at maximum puffiness
and the bagel is sufficientely 'baked'...

the ‘practitioner’ makes an indentation with his thumb.

Wala...
the perfect bagel forehead.

Personally, I don’t get the craze,

but
I do see how it will help provide
extra cushioning

when I take up headbutting.

The bagel forehead isn’t permanent...
lasting 24 hours or less.
But caution to bagel foreheads. It does come with risks.
With repeated bagel forehead formation...
the skin can loose elasticity and become baggy.

Baggy pants may be “in”...
but nothing screams “out”
more than a baggy forehead.

Anywhooooo......

Growing up, our family didn’t eat bagels.
With an English/Welch heritage and “Thomas” for a last name...
it was only ‘Thomas’s English Muffins’ for our crew.

That all changed when I went to college and I found two loves...
PaulA
and the tasty starchy carb.

Over the years I have cut down on my bagel consumption...
mainly because I was worried about developing

Bagel Butt.

But now I’m wondering if that some day it may be in vogue.

I’m thinking there’s a chance that once the
bagel forehead faze flattens out...

a bagel butt craze
could be on the rise.

They do say
"bagels aren’t just for breakfast anymore."
