Same Trick, Different Treat

I remember Halloween as a kid.
FREE CANDY.
I always felt like a kid in a candy store...
actually more like a
kid in a village of candy stores.

On Halloween night, my parents used to let us

eat as much candy as we wanted.
Boy, they were the best.
There was no limit to how much we consumed;
it was up to us ….
if we wanted to gorge ourselves and puke our guts out.
And I don't remember them checking our candy for razor blades…
or rat poison.
Now, why would anyone want to poison us little devils?

Being the cautious parents that PaulA and I were,
we had our own little devils spread their loot out
on the floor

so we could inspect it and
remove our favorites  any unwrapped candy.

Anywhoooo....

Things certainly have changed since we've last trick-or-treated.

This year I heard about a new initiative called the
Teal Pumpkin Project.
Participating homeowners put a teal colored pumpkin on their doorstep to show they
are offering nonfood treats for trick-or-treaters with food allergies.

(fyi...if you want to take part, you will have to paint a pumpkin.
I'm pretty sure you won't find one naturally teal.)

The Teal Pumpkin campaign isn't "anti-candy", but is more about inclusion

for those with food allergies.
In a nutshell,
(sorry, I couldn't resist.)
those participating hand out little toys like
stickers, pencils, cards, vampire fangs etc.

I've heard there are some folks giving out drinks such as bottled water and juice boxes.
Question:  won't kids need a wheelbarrow to haul that load?
i struggle with bottled water from the grocery store.

Some parents who are concerned about nutrition,
will be handing out healthy foods like
raisins, pretzels, and baby carrots.
I hope they draw the line at Kale.
I have an eerie feeling that
kids would frown on getting a bag of Kale chips.

I applaud parents that take a healthy stand,

but this Kat will sit out that challenge...especially for Halloween.
Foods like apples and clementines...
are heavy enough to break a window
when they are returned-to-sender.

A lot may have changed through the years,
but
when the little gremlins don't like their treat...
the trick is always the same.

ThrowbackThursday

Happy Throwback Thursday

wait,

or is it...

Happy Throwback Thursday

Kat & PaulA pre-digital selfie

Sometimes I get my Throwback Thursdays confused.

With both throwbacks
there is the possibility of
blurriness,
fuzziness,
and being
out-of-focus.

You get the picture,
right?

Goodbye Columbus, Hello Kat

Happy Columbus Day
or maybe I should say
Happy Indigenous People Day.

Apparently the day
designed to honor Columbus is being
reinvented, redesigned, and re-casted.

Columbus's "hero status" is being revoked
to "villan status"…
forcing him to sail off into the sunset...
off the edge of a flat world.

Hey, just because Columbus
wasn't the first to discover America,
the Vikings did 500 years earlier…nanny-nanny-boo-boo
thought he landed in East Asia,
which was actually the Bahamas, mon
didn't proved the World was round,
everybody knew that already, Chris
enslaved Indians and introduced disease...
let us NOT forget...
"In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue"
in a rickety, rustic, wooden boat,
without a GPS.
Think about it…
could you do that?

Say nothing about judging a historical event
using the values of today
rather than the values that existed almost 500 years ago.
o
Indigenous People Day may be more politically correct
 but…
may I propose another idea?

You could honor a 7 year blogger….Kat.

After all, it is my birthday today

and I would be wiling to share it with
any, and all
indigenous, meticulous, or mischievous people.
AND
 give people a 3-day weekend
and sales bargains galore.

Elementary school kids
would just have to learn a new rhyme….
"In 2007….Kat sailed the bloggership maiden."

Anywhooo.....

Some are also saying that
Thanksgiving, like Columbus Day,
highlights Western imperialism
and the conquest of people of color.

Woah...stop right there…..
do NOT think about changing Thanksgiving...
no one, and I mean NO ONE
messes with my
tryptophan turkey high
and pumping pie.

33 Years Together

Today is my 33rd wedding anniversary to PaulA
yikes, that's a long time

honeymoon...Jolly Roger booze cruise,
Antigua

and I got to thinking.....
today it's all about the
number 3.

PaulA + Kat...
Married 33 years on the 3rd of October.

We have 3 children.

My birthday is the 13th
and

I have 3 personalities.

Anywhooooo......

If you know me...
you know what PaulA and I will be doing later on tonight...
keep it clean folks...

I'll be
making a trip down our basement stairs,
hopefully without tripping,
opening a blue Rubber Maid container and
pulling out my halloween costume...I mean wedding dress,
walking around the house donned in my wedding day white
that may not be so white...then
dancing with PaulA to our song, "Something So Right"
sung by Barbra Streisand

all the while...
thinking how in our 33rd year of marriage
Chelsea and Austin are just
starting their marriage...only 6 days old and
knowing how much they have to look forward to in their lives together.

This 33rd anniversary couldn't be more special for us.

And also special how
Chelsea and Austin completely surprised us
by having the band play our song,
"Something So Right" for us on their wedding day.

But per tradition...
it ain't official
until Momma gets her dress on.

3 Cheers to our 33 years.
Hip Hip Hooray

And here's to cheersing a glass...
or 3.

After all today,
it's all about
the number 3.

named this month
Rocktober
as we plan to rock this month
in a big way.

Anywhoooo…….

Because of Halloween...
I usually pull out my scary rabbits...

but seeing Chelsea and Austin's wedding
was just 4 days ago...

The beautiful bride being escorted by her father to her handsome groom.

my rabbits are all about
