Happy 'Cinco de Blogo' Anniversary to ME

Today I am celebrating a

big, BIG

Anniversary.

Five years
 aka...
 my

"Cinco de Blogo".
ole
I never would have thought when I first started writing this blog
(that lazy morning five years ago)...
I'd still be blogging away.
You would have thought by now I would have
taken Five
and
taken leave
of this blog...
but apparently I still have lazy mornings.

High Fives all around.

Anywhooooo......
A lot has happened over the past 5 years
around the globe and at home.
We’ve seen
the rise and fall of
governments,
the stock market,
and The Tiger Woods.
Big C

and Colinboy have graduated from college.

and

both are rockin' it in the real world...

Wishy graduated from high school
and is a college senior..."cruising" through college,

Duncandog has a new home in heaven:(
(we miss you Duncandog)

and PaulA and I have settled into our empty nests.

More importantly...
Justin Beiber has a new hairstyle,
Snooki has a new baby meatball,
and

Honey Boo Boo rules the world.

I never would have thought that I’d still be blogging after

60 months =
5  Kat years = 35 dog years.
We’ll see where and how long I go from here.
At this time,
I’m Pleading the Fifth on my Fifth.

Anywhoooooo2
A little celebration is called for on this big BIG day.

(Try to curb the dancing in the streets...it can become quite disruptive.)
I want to thank Apple
for honoring my 5 year anniversary

with the release of the new iPhone 5.

I’m off now...
to celebrate
my  "Cinco de Blogo"...

September 11th Anniversary

Today marks the
11th anniversary of Sept. 11th
and this morning's blue sky and cool temps are reminiscent
 of that September Tuesday morning

Although this anniversary may put us another year away from that horrific day,
our hearts and minds are never that distant.

Directly or indirectly...we were ALL changed that day.

Rememberance and Reflection
are powerful
and we do that
in bustling big cities and sleepy small towns throughout our nation
on this anniversary.

There is power when people come together...
remembering...
with full hearts, those who were lost
and
reflecting...
on the strength of this great nation to move forward.

Collectively,
WE THE PEOPLE,

remember and reflect on September 11th...11 years ago.
The fortitude and strength gained from each other...
cannot be overlooked and underestimated on this annivesary
and the anniversaries to come.

Never Forget.

Tooth Fairy Economics

Prices are on the increase...
which is an overused understatement.

The price of:
Gold is galactic
Gas is ghastly
Heat is huge
Cars are crazy
Starbucks is silly

And now....
The tooth fairy is far-OUT.

Have you heard?
The average price for a tooth from the tooth fairy is 3 buck$...
(Shut your front teeth.)
with some lucky kiddos receiving
$5, $10, or $20 dollar bills.

I remember when the tooth fairy used to visit our house.
Her payout maxed out at a $1/tooth.
With three kids, loosing teeth...
there were a lot of teeth to be cashed in on.
I’m still suspect about some teeth the tooth fairy found
under their pillows,
a few looked like “chiclets” to me.

Anywhoooo.....

The tooth fairy payout is up 15 percent from last year.
Could this be an economic indicator?
Heck, we had Reganomics...
and Obamanomics.
Why not Toothfairynomics?

With a 15% increase maybe the tooth fairy is feeling more optimistic about the economy?
or
Maybe she  is feeling like her fairy job is more secure than in past years?
Or
Maybe she is trying to keep up with the
Jones's tooth fairy?

You know the Joneses...

It doesn't help that Junior Jones goes to school with his starched $20 ATM  bill
and flaunts it in the faces of the kids on the playground.
Nanny nanny boo-boo...
looky what I got from the tooth fairy.

So what’s a parent to do?
Apparently....Up the fairy ante.

I have a little hint for a kid whose parents are afraid to be “outdid”
by Junior Jones’s tooth fairy.
That kid should ride the tooth fairy guilt train as far as he can
and tell his parents.....
not only did Junior Jones find

one of these...

Junior Jones also found

one of these...

 under his pillow.

School's Back IN Session

It wasn't long ago we were singing...

"School's OUT for Summer"

BUT,

now we are singing a different tune...

"School's BACK
in session."

While schools are welcoming back students,

the roadways are welcoming back buses.

So, Watch out

for the big yellow

School Bus.

Crazy for me to think ...

it wasn't that long ago

when going back to school for our kids

nice shoes

looked like this...

Then it looked like this...

And now it looks like this.......

Have a Happy
and Safe
School Year!

Back-to-School

Some people love the smell of

 perfume...

or fresh cut grass...

or the inside of a new car.

I happen to  love the smell of the store,  Staples...

especially this time of year.

There's nothing like the smell of

back-to-school supplies

(exception: a fistful of cash.)

I’m not sure what ingredients give Staples it's unique scent.
Maybe it’s the combo of notebook paper and No. 2 lead...

but I swear if they bottled it...
I would wear it.

'Eau de Staples'

Anywhooooo......

As a kid, I looked forward to the first day of school...
just for the school supplies.

I loved choosing new pencils, pens, markers, paper…
and organizing my notebooks with subject dividers.
So when our kids started school…
I happily skipped into the nearest Staples with their lists of school supplies.

I've always liked getting organized in the paper, file, index sort-of-way...
so I couldn't wait to help my kid’s organize their piles of supplies for school.

Big C and Wishy, however, preferred to do it themselves,
so I forced myself to sit on my hands…
and longingly watch from atleast a ruler’s distance.

But
Colinboy never minded my assistance.

Heck, Colin delegated the job to me as though he was
CEO
and I was his secretary.

 “Go ahead Kat,
organize my notebooks,
sharpen my pencils...
and get them all back to me
by the end of the day.

Oh, and I take my coffee "Black."

I think Colinboy pretty much invented the Staples mantra:
“That was easy.”

Avian Side Story

Sitting with my butt planted in my "Katalac"...
(aka awesome beach chair)...

I watched a seagull land on the beach with dinner in his beak.

As the seagull looked for a
little salt and pepper to season his
catch-of-the-day...

2 black crows landed on the beach
behind him.

 The odds didn't look good...

2 black crows

vs

1 seagull

It looked like the crows would grab-and-fly with the poor gull's dinner...        .
but, not-so-fast.
The seagull realized they
were sneaking up behind him.

That's when the trash-talk started:
(I have a bird brain...hence the following translation.)

SeaGull:  "Hey Crow...
I may be a gull, but I'm not gullible.
I know what you are up to.
Beak Off."

Black Crows:  "No spindly legged bird
is gonna tell us what we can do.
Beak off, yourself."

Then before I knew it...
I heard in the distance what sounded like
 finger snapping
(or was it beak tapping?)
Cue the music.....
West Side Story

The Gull reinforcements had arrived.
2 seagulls landed behind the 2 crows.

It was

The Jets
vs
 The Sharks

The  two rivals were ready to rumble.

They looked ready to take each other on...beak-to-beak...
when the wind blew...
and the crows flew away

Anywhooo......

The Gulls prevailed this time...

but they can never be too careful.

The Gulls should never count the crows out.

The Crows have been making comebacks
 for years...

but who's counting?
